BTS’s J-Hope is the second South Korean K-pop group member to begin military service.

The band’s record firm, Big Hit Music, announced that the 29-year-old vocalist will join after earlier requesting a delay.

Weverse, Hybe’s global fan community, posted, “We would like to inform our fans that j-hope has initiated the military enlistment process by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement.”

We ask for your love and support until J-hope returns home safety from military service. The message promised to help our talent.

Big Hit announced “on the street,” a new J Hope tune and music video. On March 3, a lo-fi hip-hop track with a “hopeful message,” “easy-listening melody,” and “warm-hearted lyrics” will be issued.

“Street” is a symbol for life and the song’s main theme. It comes from “street dance,” which represents J-hope’s creative roots and his plans for his world fanbase.

Jin joined the service in December 2022, and the rest of BTS are expected to join in 2025. In 2018, former president Moon Jae-In awarded BTS the Order of Cultural Merit, enabling them to join at 30.

J-hope was the first to post or hint at a solo effort. “On the street” will follow his 2022 solo debut, “Jack in the Box,” which had a music video showing J-Hope preparing for his Lollapalooza appearance in August.
